On June 20th 2023, the Emmabuntüs Collective is happy to announce the release of the Emmabuntüs Debian Edition 5 RC 1 update (32 and 64 bits), based on the Debian 12.0 stable Bookworm distribution and supporting both Xfce and LXQt desktop environments.
This distribution was originally designed to facilitate the reconditioning of computers donated to humanitarian organizations, starting with the Emmaüs communities (which is where the distribution’s name obviously comes from), to promote the discovery of GNU/Linux by beginners, as well as to extend the lifespan of computer hardware, in order to reduce the waste induced by the over-consumption of raw materials.
This release features the new Emerald graphic theme created by Juliette Taka, the graphic designer who already created numerous wallpapers for Debian, as well as the wallpapers of the Emmabuntüs DE 4 distribution :
The famous Debian beginner’s handbook was updated by our friend arpinux for the Bookworm 12 version, and is also included in this release :
In this RC 1 version, the following fixes and improvements were implemented :
- Based on the Debian 12.0 Bookworm
- Added additional installable languages through post install script
- Added Jami from the Debian repository
- Added wallpapers based on the Emerald theme of Debian 12
- Improved display visibility of the GRUB in Secure Boot
