Free digital technology for the education of Togolese youth

Since 2015 in the Savannah and Kara regions of the North Togo, 34 computer training rooms have been installed and maintained in partnership with JUMP Lab and Emmabuntüs. These equipments are located within educational or social structures and help educate young people using the Emmabuntüs free operating system.

This project has provided computer training in educational and/or social structures for around 45,000 children, based on an assessment of the number of pupils introduced to computers between 2015 and 2022. It has also led to the creation of 22 jobs for IT and office automation trainers in charge of classrooms since 2015. This project is made possible by regular donations of refurbished computers from various institutions and the work of the JUMP Lab teams, our local partner.

Maintenance in the Savannah region.

To coincide with the start of the new school year, the JUMP Lab team was on hand to carry out maintenance on the 19 rooms installed in secondary schools in the Savannah region. Aimé, Mohamed, Charlemagne and Jean-Eudes took it in turns to dust the machines and replace any faulty components.

The maintenance and monitoring of these rooms is of high importance in ensuring the sustainability and effectiveness of this educational project.

Maintenance in the Kara region.

Between September 7th and 18th 2024, Charles toured the 15 computer rooms under his responsibility. As in the north region, most of the work consisted of meticulous cleaning of the CPUs and keyboards. Indeed, the persistent dust sucked up by the ventilation is the cause of 90% of the malfunctions observed and remedied during these technical visits.

150 reconditioned computers are waiting at Interlogistic in HECKEN 68 for loading and departure of the next CAPTOGO container bound for Sokodé via Rotterdam and then Lomé. Apart from the creation of one or two new classrooms, these computers are intended to replace the most obsolete ones in the first classrooms, and to enlarge other classrooms at the request of the head teachers.
